The two latest additions to the Mini-Pix! Definitely gotta get started on a whole Mass Effect piece soon.
Lots of new additions to the ever-growing Mini-Pix series. You'll find a few of the individuals below and I'll be releasing a ReBoot Collection soon along with a Video Game All-Stars and Arrested Development piece. Shock waves from the New York Comic-Con have been rumbling through my studio all week but it seems things are finally getting back to normal. My series of Mini-Pix (Minimalist Pixel Art) always has me on the quest to find the perfect pattern. Each character is an experiment on optical color mixing. The human eye only has so much "resolution" and the pixels must be able to solidly represent the subject while using as few Perler Beads as possible. Breaking the world around us down to its most basic form forces us to focus on the unique features that make something recognizable. If we can simplify the world around us, perhaps we can simplify ourselves. What would you look like as one of the Mini-Pix? Below you'll find two excellent examples of how just a few beads can make all the difference. These characters are nearly identical from the neck down but can you still tell who is who? Our mind's eye has to deduce the character's identities using just the 6 x 6 square of pixels depicting their heads. When working on this scale, every pixel is precious. Now to figure out how to clearly depict the difference between a wetsuit and a prison uniform...
...the quest continues. I'm having a blast at the 2014 New York Comic-Con. So many cool people, costumes, displays... the energy is unparalleled. Also, the response to my art has exceeded my expectations. People love seeing the subject matter they love via a unique medium that they probably haven't seen it in before. If you're attending, swing by booth #142 and say hello!
The spirit of Springfield lives on in the tablecloth for my Comic-Con booth! If you haven't already, head over to the Pixel Art Shop Facebook Page and give it a Like! I'll be posting photos and updates from the convention next week in my quest to turn the pop culture world in minimalist artwork via Perler Beads!
